Wardrobe Update

Before leaving for Chicago, I ran to the mall and did a little shopping. I don’t shop much for myself anymore and really wanted a few new pieces to freshen up my wardrobe. I’ve been slowly getting rid of stuff (thoughts to come on this) and that includes a few things in my closet that I just don’t wear all that often or haven’t in a while. So I also wanted to be mindful of buying pieces that will last me a while and that I will get a good bit of wear out of.

I’ve been eyeing these leopard sandals for a while now and just couldn’t get them out of my mind. My normal shoes are Target, so these were somewhat of a splurge, but I love them and think I’ll be able to get a lot of use out of them.

While I was already at the mall, I decided to pop into Anthro for a run-through. I found these pants in the sale section because they had an ink stain on them, but I couldn’t find anything. I tried them on and oh my word they are so comfortable! I’ve been wearing Old Navy’s Rockstar jeans for colored pants for a while, but they just aren’t that comfortable or flattering. These are both and I am already wanting to go pick up some more. They come in lots of different colors.

I also grabbed this fun top. I wasn’t blown away by most of the tops this Anthro had (it’s not my usual one and their selection is smaller), but I thought this was a good take on a classic t-shirt and just a little more special. Although it is a bit swingier than it looks in the picture. I was surprised that I was drawn to the yellow and gray again. This used to be my thing- at one point I think I had 4 yellow and gray striped shirts. But I liked it, so I grabbed it and like the pants, I wish I had it it multiple colors.

Pinterest Clothes Lusting

I haven’t done a Pinterest post in a while, so I figured we were well overdue. This one is all about clothes. While browsing Pinterest looking for clothes, I’ve realized that there is a huge disconnect between me and the girls of today. I am a huge fuddy-duddy prude next to them. I don’t think I could ever go out showing my stomach or wearing anything as short as what I see on there. Geez. I hope my daughters don’t think they are going to walk out of the house like that. Thank God for the Duchess of Cambridge for bringing back modesty.

Hopping off my soapbox.

This is my life. For realz.

About half of my “My Style” pinboard is kelly green. I especially love this green skirt with a simple navy t-shirt. Classic and easy. Although I would probably just wear my Rainbows with it and ruin the whole look.

I also very much love this dress and think it would be a great “going away” dress. Basically, it’s just an excuse to buy another piece of clothing. But I do love the idea of having a going away outfit and not having to deal with my wedding dress the next day.

Although this would be an AWESOME reception dress, but I’m not going to spend thousands of dollars on a dress to just wear for 30 minutes. But if we were having a small, family-only wedding, this would be right up my alley!

This bracelet is the perfect mix of trendy and classic. Love the chunky-ness and the gold and tortoise combo. So fun.

I love these shoes. And I can’t believe they’re from American Eagle. But they are. I’ve stopped shopping there because, well, I’m no longer in high school, but from browsing their website, they’ve got some pretty good stuff. I might need to stop in there next time I’m in the mall for some colored jeans.

Do You See What I See?

So in my recent internet window shopping for the perfect dress for work/Kathleen’s wedding/engagement pictures (tall order, but I know it’s out there!) I came across a PHENOMENON.

(From H&M and Anthropologie- for $350!!!)

That is TWO, not one, but TWO, pairs of denim overalls. One of which, are overall SHORTS.

A few years ago, Sarah and I lamented the fact that we had gotten rid of our overalls. I had not only a pair of denim overall shorts, but also a pair of denim overall CAPRIS.

Unfortuantely, after searching facebook, I can find no photographic evidence of this, although I know there is some, somewhere. Although I did find some rather questionable fashion choices. Can we just say gaucho pants? In a bar??? And boat shoes?

But I guess in a few years, we’ll look back and lament our current choices. And then a few years later, they’ll be back in style! Life fashion is a vicious cycle. I’m never getting rid of anything ever again.

Fashion Police: The Oscars 2012

Last night were the Academy Awards. I LOVE watching the Oscars, mostly because I love to see all of the clothes. Last night though, Sarah and I filled out ballots, so that helped make it more interesting too. I just wish they didn’t last so dang long! Anyway, here are my favorite (and a few least favorite) dresses from the night!

Michelle Williams was my FAVORITE! I thought her dress was so precious and she accessorized it perfectly. I’m thinking of getting a new dress for the weddings we’re going to this year and I’m thinking it may need to have that little flair at the hip! I also had her picked for best actress, but you really can’t complain when Meryl wins, right?

I really like Sandra Bullock’s dress, even though this isn’t the most flattering picture of it. I know a lot of people thought it should be more tailored at the top, but I think that’s how it was supposed to look. She does look like she’s had some work done, though. I guess it could just be the way her eye makeup is done.

I’m a big Tina Fey fan, but I don’t usually love what she wears to award shows. This time, I thought she looked spectacular! I loved her dress, hair and earrings! I thought it was all great! I typically think when you’re not a nominee, you should take a step back, and she did but still looked great!

I LOVED Octavia Spencer’s dress! I think the color looked great on her and I thought the shape was super flattering. It was very pretty, but it looked comfortable, too! I also really liked her hair and earrings. The more I think about it, she may be tied with Michelle Williams.

Ooh, but I forgot for a second about Jessica Chastain. Call me biased, but I loved her character in The Help. And I loved the dress and how the gold played off her hair color. And the embroidery was exquisite!

I also know a lot of people weren’t as crazy about Emma Stone’s dress, but I really liked it! She’s adorable and I thought it fit her well and I really liked her hair with it. I probably would have had to pop in some turquoise or some emeralds with it, though.

I usually think Guiliana Rancic looks good, but I was especially impressed with this dress. I really loved all of the beading details on it and how she accessorized it. Although I think her hair should have have some more body to it.

Angelina Jolie always wears the same dang thing. I’d probably like this dress if it didn’t look like every other dress she’s ever worn. Also, why the HECK is she standing like that??

Jennifer Lopez was my least favorite, I think. After looking at her dress more, I think I would have liked it if it hadn’t had sleeves. I don’t like that weird cutout thing and they’re too long, also.

That about covers it!

Some trends I noticed:
Not a lot of color, mostly metallics
Lots of asymmetry with ruffles and one-shoulders
Not a lot of over the top jewelry, fairly understated
For the most part, everyone looked very modern; not a lot of old Hollywood

What were your favorite and least favorites? Any trends I missed??

Pinnable Friday: Football Fashion

Since the other week, I talked about football, this week, I’m talking what to WEAR to the games. Because what you wear is almost as important as winning and losing. Because if you’re going to lose, you better look good doing it.

This is the perfect gameday dress. Cute, stylish, yet classic. This is something you can wear for years and every year, someone will compliment you on it. Because what’s the point of dressing up if someone isn’t going to tell you that you look good?

Apparently I have a thing for horizontal striped skirts. I love, love both of these. If I had to pick, I would probably get the red, but the black would be way more versatile. Also, I prefer the length of the black.

This top could not be more adorable! Great for the first game, or for a less important game like Coastal Carolina. No offense to the Chantileers, of course.

One of the easiest ways to wear red is through your accessories. Some seasons, red clothes are hard to come by. (Fortunately, they’re popular this season!!) But black and white are always easy to find. So I have stocked up on red jewelry, purses, hats, scarves, etc to snazz up my outfits.

The One With Needs vs. Wants

I was on Pinterest the other day (of course!) and I saw something. Something amazing. It looked like something I had seen before, but I couldn’t believe it! There was just no way. So I clicked on the link. And lo and behold, I was right!

J. Crew had reissued their bubble necklace!!

But this time, instead of being in yellow, gray, and turquoise, it was in RED and BLACK!

Obviously, I need want the red.

But seriously, how can I make this a need? Do you think my landlord would understand if I didn’t pay part of my rent for the month? Doubtful.

So Mama, here is item Numero Uno for my Christmas list.

I hope we make it to a bowl game so I can wear it.

Shop Ruche

The other day, I was browsing one of my favorite photography blogs and she mentioned the store Ruche. Now maybe I’m way out of the loop here but I had never heard of it, so I hopped on over to their website to see what all of the fuss was about. And I fell in deep, deep lust! Ruche is “a vintage inspired boutique with a modern touch” and super affordable! Most dresses are under $50 and tops are around $35, which is crazy to me! Here are some of my favorites:

Sooo cute! I can’t wait til I have a paycheck! Haha!
