This Throwback Thursday isn’t THAT old. But I don’t have any really old pictures on my computer right now, so this will have to do for now.
This picture is from senior year of college, round 1. Jami, Pease, and I were inseparable Senior year. It was taken after round 2 of recruitment, house tours. I was in charge of that round, Pease was the president of the sorority and Jami was VP of Member Development (I think). I bet we have over 50 pictures together from that year.
Pease hates it when you “crowd her face,” so Jami and I would give each other a look right before we took the picture and go for it. Of course, we thought it was the most hilarious thing ever.
Senior year of college is one of my favorite times of my life. We had so many good and fun memories that year. I could tell a million stories- from hanging out with Kathleen in my room between classes to Pease and Sarah Kate playing my Wii at night to our year-long bar crawl. It’s hard to believe that this August we will have all known each other 9 years. I wouldn’t trade these memories for anything.
Weddings are one of my favorite things. Everyone is happy and there is good food, drinks and dancing to be had by all! Friday night, we went to my friend Kristen and Brian’s wedding.
This is a terrible picture. But it’s the only one of the group, so it will have to do. A bad picture is better than no picture at all. Besides, this blog is about real life and real life isn’t always pretty pictures.
Kristen’s grandmother was ADORABLE dancing with her dad! One of the highlights, for sure!
Love this guy and going to weddings with him. Even if he’s still got the mustache 2 weeks later…. (And a special thanks that he took all of these pictures because he knows I like having them, but don’t always take the time to make them.)
Claire and I struggled mightily to get the candle lit.
We finally did!
The next day, my feet were terribly sore from wearing (and dancing in) heels all night. But it’s the good ache of a fun night. I will always love that feeling.
Some days, I have no idea what to blog about and then other days, I’m perusing Facebook and a blog post falls into my lap.
Apparently, yesterday was National Squirrel Day. So, in honor of all of our little furry friends, I did a little round-up of squirrels that are sprinkled throughout our apartment. A squirrel was our sorority mascot, which is what began my love. And then woodland creatures became popular as decor, which made them accessible.
This is Palmer, named after an alum of our chapter, MFP. She was given to me by Iz. She’s also the only one with a name.
Squirrel nutcracker- given to me by Monica at one of our wedding showers.
A little baby nightlight, also given to me by Monica for Christmas this year. I think it’s precious.
A hook from Anthro- this is one of the few I’ve bought for myself.
This guy (Cornelius Thoroughgood) hangs in our kitchen. I got him from Urban Outfitters in Salt Lake City when I drove out with Burles.
I was given this one at a Habitat for Humanity store when I was with Chance and Lala. I have no idea who Sam is. Ryan loves that he has to look at this when he pees.
Mama gave me these two at a wedding shower.
And the last two- I actually have two sets of S and P shakers. These I got from Urban Outfitters and the other set is from Iz as a housewarming gift.
Yes, it is a lot for 650 square feet, but keep in mind that Ryan has at least 20 Dave Matthews posters that will one day be adorning the walls of
our home his man room/office. We both have our (adorable) quirks.
Last night, Iz came over for dinner. I made the easiest recipe ever and a take on Shauna Niequiest’s green wellness salad. We sat and ate and talked and laughed and drank for 3 hours. Those are the best nights. Simple and easy. It all goes back to the Nester- it doesn’t have to be perfect to be beautiful. The apartment wasn’t perfectly picked up and the pasta wasn’t cooked perfectly. But it was good. And now Iz heads to Spain for 2 months. I can’t wait to hear all about her trip.
P.S.- She also brought me this little squirrel friend, officially dubbed Palmer in honor of MFP. She is currently sporting a red ribbon for Georgia’s game today against Vandy.
Just when I think I’m all caught up, I’m not again. Last Friday, I went to Athens to help with Rush and see the sorority house. It looks beautiful!
The bathrooms in the old part were also redone, but I wasn’t able to get a good picture of them. But they aren’t even recognizable!
Friday night, Ryan, Mikey, Sarah, and I went to the Falcons preseason game. My theory of I only take pictures when Sarah’s around feel through, but oh well. The Falcons first team played good, but the second team made us lose. Boo.
Saturday we had a great day! We help Pease and Ross move into their new house a little bit, then went over to Ryan’s parents’ house to hang out. That night, we went to dinner at Fritti to celebrate Ryan’s grandmother’s birthday. It was GREAT pizza and salad!
I love great weekends like this that are quiet and relaxed, with family and friends.
Then Sunday, it was back home to pack to move! Yay!!!
Last week, I was reading Donald Miller’s latest book and he had a quote in there that struck me. “Writers don’t like to write, they like to have written.” I feel that way about blogging right now. I’m struggling with the whole blogging process. So I’m fighting through.
A few weekends ago, the sorority had our Reunion Day. Several people from our pledge class all came for lunch and the speaker. Afterwards, we had a groundbreaking for the remodel of our house. The “new part” is almost 50 years old and we have just outgrown it. So, it is being torn down and rebuilt and it will fit more into the style of the original house, which is fabulous.
All of the alumni after lunch
Our pledge class that was there. I’m kinda annoyed that no one told me to fix my bangs.
Of course, we took this one first. Much more typical.
Then we headed back to the house for the groundbreaking.
And then my camera died.
But I kept going! First I walked down to the stadium to meet Ryan and Sarah for the last 8 minutes or so of the G Day game. After that, Ryan and I went to a tennis match, which is the best sport I never went to my 4.5 years of college. It was a lot of fun!
For dinner we met back up with Sarah and Jason and Kacina at Mirko. It was delicious and great to see them! We need to all get together more often.
(Yes, that sounds a little dirty. Yes, I kinda like it.)
On Sunday, we had a sorority alumni event at Sips and Strokes. Although it was basically the same people that were at Sips and Strokes last time. But we had a great time. And I kinda liked this picture better than the one we did last time.
We started with a blank canvas (that I couldn’t take a straight picture of, apparently.)
That lady in the black on the left side of the picture got green paint in Pease’s hair. And just kept painting. Haha
All of us. Me, Kristina, Claire, Burles, and Pease
Now I just have to decide where to hang it!
