This month of our “7” has been spending and possessions. We decided to combine the two. Truthfully, I’m not at a place where I feel like we have so much stuff to get rid of, but there is some that still needs to be cleaned out and donated. But I have loved (not sure that’s the right word…) the no-spending challenge. There have been many moments where I’ve thought it would be so easy to just drive through CFA, but I perservered and came home and made a can of soup or a sandwich. And I feel so much better about it.
I spend so much money on convenience, when it’s not that much more difficult to cook something or make a sandwich. As Kate, one of the girls I’m doing this with, said, it’s made me so much mindful of what I’m buying.
But I still have a list of things I want to buy when this is all over with. And most of it comes from Boden. My friend Michelle is getting married in May and I think I need some stuff for that.
I’m in love with this gray-purple. My new neutral.
I also think these are so cute and fun.
I also have several things I want to do around the house. We are hosting our Sunday School class in April, so I have several things I want to do before then. Not because I think anyone will care but because I need a deadline. I have some art that needs to be framed, I want to have our dining chairs and chairs in our living room recovered and curtains made. I also have a chandelier that needs to be replaced.
And now I’ve decided I want to change the doorknobs in our house.
And I want new house numbers.
And some fake lemons for my trifle bowl. These are from Dollar Tree. Is $1 a lemon a reasonable price? I’m trying to decide. You have to buy 36, which I could probably use that many. But spending $40 on fake lemons seems kinda crazy.
Let’s just add to the list.
I’m having a difficult time reconciling what we want to buy and spend on ourselves versus what we should give. We are wealthy and it matters. I guess the questions is what are we going to do about it?
If a man shuts his ear to the cry of the poor, he too will cry out and not be answered. Proverbs 13:21
I haven’t done a Pinterest post in a while, so I figured we were well overdue. This one is all about clothes. While browsing Pinterest looking for clothes, I’ve realized that there is a huge disconnect between me and the girls of today. I am a huge fuddy-duddy prude next to them. I don’t think I could ever go out showing my stomach or wearing anything as short as what I see on there. Geez. I hope my daughters don’t think they are going to walk out of the house like that. Thank God for the Duchess of Cambridge for bringing back modesty.
Hopping off my soapbox.
This is my life. For realz.
About half of my “My Style” pinboard is kelly green. I especially love this green skirt with a simple navy t-shirt. Classic and easy. Although I would probably just wear my Rainbows with it and ruin the whole look.
I also very much love this dress and think it would be a great “going away” dress. Basically, it’s just an excuse to buy another piece of clothing. But I do love the idea of having a going away outfit and not having to deal with my wedding dress the next day.
Although this would be an AWESOME reception dress, but I’m not going to spend thousands of dollars on a dress to just wear for 30 minutes. But if we were having a small, family-only wedding, this would be right up my alley!
This bracelet is the perfect mix of trendy and classic. Love the chunky-ness and the gold and tortoise combo. So fun.
I love these shoes. And I can’t believe they’re from American Eagle. But they are. I’ve stopped shopping there because, well, I’m no longer in high school, but from browsing their website, they’ve got some pretty good stuff. I might need to stop in there next time I’m in the mall for some colored jeans.
So in conclusion,
I’m sure I’ve said it before, but it bears repeating. I have ganked up feet. It’s true. They’re tiny and skinny and I have a really hard time finding flats and sandals that fit. For instance, I cannot ever wear t-strap sandals. They kill my feel. But this year, these really cute sandals are in style and I want some. But only for the right price, of course.
Unfortunately, $80 is slightly out of my price range.
I also really like these from ModCloth, even though I think they kinda look like little boy church sandals. I think that might actually be part of why I like them. And the price is right at $36. Unfortunately, the smallest size they have is a 6 and it says they run big, so order down. At a 5/5.5 shoe size, that just won’t work for me.
I also like these from Ruche, but I want the strap to go around my ankle and I want them to be more plain, no frills. I guess a little more androgynous. But not ugly, because I want to be able to wear them to work and for fun. So they should be semi-comfortable, but that should happen with them being flats.
Boo. My life is so hard.
That was a joke.
But seriously, who can give me some suggestions on where to look?
It’s baaaaaaack!! I really feel like I haven’t done one of these in a while, and I’ve really just been doing a bunch of random stuff, so here ya go!
I made these flowers from Jones Design Company (yes, because I’m slightly obsessed with her stuff) and put them on a headband. Well, when I put it on, it looked like I had flowers growing out of my head. (Please excuse the lack of makeup and clean hair.)
So, I simply tucked the last flower behind my ear and now I LOVE it! It makes me feel French or something like that. I just love little things that put a spring in my step.
I painted my fingernails yellow. It was a little too intense for me at first. But I think I could get used to it. Also, it was the best nail polish EVER because they barely even got chipped after being on for over a week! (It’s Sally Hansen Hard as Nails. Not sure what color but I have the Lacey Lilac and it’s my favorite summer color! Also, super cheap!)
I’m way excited for the last Harry Potter movie to be coming out. If I had time, I would re-read all of the books, but I don’t. My friend Catherine told me about this guy that reads and blogs each HP book chapter by chapter. It’s called Mark Reads Harry Potter and it might even be better than reading the books again because he is reading them for the first time and you get to relive all of the emotions you had when you first read the books through him. Forewarning, he uses some pretty terrible language though.
I love these Anthropologie shoes and feel like I could totally make them. So stinkin cute!
Well, I think that’s all I’ve got for now. Clearly my life is less interesting than I thought. Oh, well.
Somehow (and I really don’t know how) my internet browser wandered over to Anthropologie’s website. And now I have a serious case of shoe lust. (It’s a real condition. I promise.)
I’m sure you don’t remember but I was looking for another pair of semi-casual black sandals. These would totally fit the bill.
I’m always a sucker for a good yellow sandal. And these have a braid!
Is there anything these wouldn’t go with? I think not! At least not in my closet!
Of course these are FABULOUS!!! I would wear them every chance I got.
I gladly take any check or major credit card. ;) I just can’t decide!!
It’s almost that time, Ladies and Gents. The time we anticipate with both excitement and dread. Swimsuit season. I got my first Victoria’s Secret bathing suit catalog a few weeks ago. That must make it official.
Last year, in an effort to save some moolah, I decided not to buy a bathing suit. I figured I had enough to hold me over. So this year, it means I’ve got to. Here are a few I’m thinking of.
(Does anyone else find the VS models distracting? I can’t concentrate on the bathing suits in those weird poses they do. Have you ever stood on the beach like that?)
You can’t go to the beach without the proper cover-up and shoes!
Of course, y’all know I’ve had every single bag under the sun, but my favorite beach bag will always be the Lands’ End Canvas Tote. Monogrammed, of course.
Which are your favorites?
In honor of the non-106 degree temps we had 2 days ago (that have since returned) and the start of football season, I wanted to do an entire post dedicated to my love of vests, but alas, this does not seem to be the year of the vest. Unless you’re a fan of the Chewbacca/Rachel Zoe furry ones. Which I am not.
Some of you may be wondering how football and vests are related. Never fear. I will lead you on a journey through my mind. I hope you don’t get lost. Football -> fall weather -> vests. One of my favorite outfits for the fall is a short sleeved shirt, jeans, rainbows, and a vest. Perfection.
Basically, I could only find 2 that were even acceptable to consider buying. Not even my beloved Lands’ End Canvas with all of its preppy goodness couldn’t come through for me this time.
This vest from Old Navy is one that I love. The pockets and the khaki make me feel like I’m on safari, even though I haven’t even left Greensboro. Unfortunately, it’s all sold out except in XXL. Boo. But if any of you see it one of your Old Navy’s, buy it for me and I will pay you back!
I also enjoyed this one from J Crew. Very English countryside. Especially if you paired it with a plaid shirt and navy Hunter boots. Although the rest of theirs were furry. Well, there was another one that I liked. But the $995 price tag will keep me from buying it for… ever. Do they seriously sell that many of them to make it worthwhile??
But after seeing these red suede boots on the mini-Boden website, I am not determined to find some for me. Although, my feet are so small, I could probably wear these.
That is freakin’ huge. But I’m tired and too lazy to make them smaller. Sorry. :)
Now I must go back to watching Gossip Girl and studying my UGA media guide. It’s almost SAAAAAAAATURDAAAAAAY IN ATHEEEEEEENNNS!!!
